Activision Blizzard reacts to unionisation talk with opposed-unionisation talk
Yesterday's story about the ongoing strike at Activision Blizzard also noted that some employees at the publisher appeared to Be ramping up efforts to unionise. Piece it's not hyaline at this point how widespread or successful those efforts are, it was sufficient to get the attention of company management: An internal message from Activision Blizzard chief administrative officer Brian Bulatao warns employees that voting for a union could personify bad, actually.
"As you Crataegus laevigata have seen yesterday, there was a communication based on by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) that asked employees to foretoken and submit union authorization cards," the message says. "I want to personify hyaloid about this: The leading of Activision Snowstorm supports your right, under the National Trade union movement Relations Act, to make your own decision about whether or non to join a union.
"As you take in this decision for your future, we ask only that you take time to consider the consequences of your signature on the binding legal document bestowed to you aside CWA. At one time you sign that document, you bequeath have signed over to CWA the only right 'to be [you] for the purposes of agglomerative bargaining concerning all footing and conditions of employment.' That means your ability to negotiate totally your own working conditions will be turned finished to CWA, even as the document says."
A copy of the message was shared on Chirrup past departing senior test analyst Jessica Gonzalez.
Bulatao says that achieving "workplace culture aspirations" is better achieved through dialog between management and employees, not the CWA.
"If we fail to attain the workplace goals we have exposit—if we fail to do the things we've committed to doing—then of course you will still forever have the right to engage with, and voter turnout for, CWA," he wrote. "Only we are confident that we wish make the progress we've previously pledged to cook and make up a workplace with you that we can all be pleased."
The content has attracted considerable levels of scorn on Chitter. Many replies picture it as a veiled threat, while others wonder why, if Activision is so committed to change, it ISN't moving Sir Thomas More quickly to play about alter. The broad consensus is that Activision Blizzard is very eager to keep unionization.
The CWA also weighed in, calling the statement "disappointing."
It's disappointing to see Activision Blizzard management, at yet another choice point when they could have through the suited thing, stunt woman kill and continue to remove the low road. 1/December 10, 2021
"As an alternative of responding to their workers' concerns, they've opted to blast the most tired anti-closed talking points straight from the union busting script," the CWA tweeted. "Jointure avoidance campaigns wasteland resources that ABK management could other be using to savoir-faire serious concerns so much as compensating the victims of sexed molestation. We hope direction will come to its senses & control that their exclusively viable path forward is to meet the righteous demands from the initial walkout, including ensuring there is a lasting worker voice in all company matters."
The negative backlash International Relations and Security Network't surprising—what is a trifle astonishing, to me at least, is that Activision Rash leadership would believe that putt out this good-hearted of message was a good idea. They had to jazz the message would go public, and would not be well received. The only sensible conclusion seems to be that they believe sowing incertitude concluded unionisation is worth the backfire.
Several hours subsequently Bulatao's content, some other was sent to managers by important masses officer Julie Hodges, oblation "training sessions" on how to answer union-accompanying questions from employees. It did not review precise well either.
Nothing scares an unaccountable executive like the thought of existence held accountable by designed employee action. https://t.co/CJKjBinD6qDecember 10, 2021
A GoFundMe campaign launched on Thursday to support Activision Blizzard employees who have walked off the job in substantiate of Raven Software narrow workers who were relinquish cobbler's last workweek is now dormie to closely $250,000.
